Occupational Therapy Services

Occupational Therapy (OT) is a regulated health profession that utilizes assessment and intervention to address the needs of many individuals. Here at Wellington Kids, the OT engages children and adolescents in a variety of play activities to enhance their physical, sensory and motor skills.  We provide a holistic approach to therapy by considering the person, the activities they engage or are interested in and their interaction with the environment.

OT may help your child to boost their fine motor skills in order to manipulate objects, develop the skills needed for handwriting or improve hand-eye coordination skills to improve aspects of play. The child may also be engaged in gross motor activities to strength core muscles, improve stability (i.e., endurance and strength), balance and awareness of their body in space. OTs may also assist children to learn or enhance the skills required to complete basic self-care tasks (i.e. bathing, feeding, getting dressed). OT could also assist in developing regulation strategies to remain in an optimal state for learning (i.e. calm, engaged and alert). Evaluating the need for specialized equipment may also be an area of focus if it is meaningful to the child’s functional concerns (e.g., assistive technology).

The intervention plan utilizes the child’s strengths and is developed based on the needs of the child and their family. Let us engage your child in fun, play-based and functional activities to improve their skills today!
